ADHD Assessment – A Step-by-Step Guide
Our ADHD assessment process is designed to provide a thorough and accurate diagnosis, ensuring you receive the best possible care and support.
1. Initial Screening
You will complete rating scales and questionnaires to assess ADHD symptoms and their impact on daily life. For children, parents or caregivers will also provide input, and school reports may be requested for additional insights.
2. Additional Background Information
We may gather further details from family members, partners, or teachers to gain a comprehensive understanding of symptoms across different settings.
3. Clinical Interview
A specialist ADHD clinician will conduct an in-depth assessment, exploring symptom history, developmental background, educational experiences, family history, and any other relevant factors affecting daily functioning.
4. Psychological Testing
In some cases, psychological testing may be recommended to evaluate cognitive functioning, attention levels, and related factors. This may include a QB check, which incurs additional fees.
5. Diagnostic Decision
A diagnosis will be made based on the information gathered, following the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5) criteria.
6. Treatment Planning
If diagnosed with ADHD, we will discuss suitable treatment options, such as medication or ADHD coaching. Medication suitability will be assessed in an initial review consultation, followed by monthly follow-ups to monitor progress and adjust dosage as needed. Prescriptions will be provided via recorded delivery (medication costs are separate).
7. Shared Care
Our goal is to stabilize your treatment, which typically takes around three months. Once your ADHD is well-managed with the optimal medication and dosage, we will request your GP to take over your care (shared care). However, please note that GPs have the right to accept or refuse shared care. If accepted, you will be able to request repeat prescriptions directly from your GP.
